England’s Jose Butler will return to India for five Twenty20 matches after a comfortable three-Test series, as announced by the country’s cricket board on Thursday. Butler ended his Test tour after England won the opening match of a four-Test series in Chennai on Tuesday, as part of the team’s rest and rotation policy amid the Corona virus epidemic. Joe Root’s second Test for England will start in Chennai on Saturday and the last match will start in Ahmedabad, which is scheduled to start on March 4.
The touring team, led by England whiteball captain Avon Morgan, will play five T20 matches in Ahmedabad from March 12. Root, who last played in the T20s in May 2019, has been left out of the 16-man squad that includes spinner Adil Rashid and left-arm quick res basket. To end the tour, England will play three one-day internationals on March 23, 26 and 28. The ODI squad will be announced at a later date.
